Rules
How to play
- Each move slides every tile in one direction; equal tiles collide and merge into one tile of double value.
- After every move a new tile (2 or 4) appears on a random empty cell.
- Merging a 2048 tile is the goal; keep going for 4096 or 8192 if you dare.
- The game ends when the board is full and no merges remain. Score decides.
- Arrow keys or WASD on desktop; swipe on touch screens.
Strategy
Three rules that reliably reach 2048
- Pin the big tile in a corner. Lock your largest tile into one corner (say bottom-left), then mostly use the two directions that feed it. This single habit pays the most.
- Build the snake. Keep values descending along the edges — 512→256→128→64 in a chain — so merges stay connected instead of scattered.
- Do not chase single merges. Sliding toward the middle to join two 64s wrecks the corner. Merges are a by-product of structure; keep the structure first.
FAQ
About this 2048
Is this the same as the original 2048?
Rules are identical: 4×4 grid, random 2s and 4s, equals merge. This is our own implementation with touch support and a local best score.
Why do I always stall around 512?
Almost always a broken corner. Enforce the corner-plus-snake discipline and 1024 is a matter of time.
Where is my best score stored?
